Brisa Contreras

So before I tell you about my fairytale dream come true, I want to give you a brief background about my Fiancé and I so you can understand our circumstances. I, Brisa Monique Contreras, am a proud Fightin’ Texas Aggie, Class of 2017 currently working towards my Bachelor’s Degree on a path towards my Master’s as a Physician Assistant.  My Fiancé, Corey Austin Ray, is a former A&M student and Aggie baseball player.  He is currently pitching in the minor leagues for the Kansas City Royals. We both work hard towards our dreams and our dreams require quite a bit of our time, which gives us less time to be together. So, 2 weeks before Corey had to leave for spring training and the baseball season this year, a total of 7 months time away from home, we decided to treat ourselves to a romantic get away weekend for Valentines Day in San Antonio. We checked into our hotel Friday night and the next morning we got up and spent most of the day at the San Antonio Zoo. The weather was perfect and we had such a great time. We even got to feed the giraffes; something both of us had never done before. I thought that was going to be the highlight of my day, but little did I know. Tired and exhausted, we went back to our hotel for a quick nap and shower before dinner. We decided not to make any reservations for dinner that night, just walk the Riverwalk and let fate take us the rest of the day. Sounds risky since Valentines’ night is one of the hardest nights to eat anywhere, but it was the most romantic and spontaneous we’ve ever been and that’s what made it special. We ended up walking by this nice Italian restaurant called Paesanos and decided that this was going to be our destination for our most spontaneous night. After a delicious meal and a glass of wine, we continued our adventure on the Riverwalk. We then came across this really pretty spot on the edge of the Riverwalk outlined in flagstone where this art sculpture was displayed. Me, being the artsy person that I am (I like painting on my free time and I’ve taken a few art courses) we stopped to admire the piece and he asked me what I saw in it. Once someone walked by us, Corey stopped them and asked them to take a picture of us in front of this giant cypress tree where he then got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together! Just after I said yes, of course, a riverboat was passing by us shouting and celebrating us. It was perfect! When I finally pulled myself together we got off the Riverwalk and walked further into downtown San Antonio where all of the nightlife was. I am a Disney Princess at heart, so Corey took me over to something I’ve always dreamt of doing and just have never had an opportunity for… a horse carriage ride!! We stood in line and waited until I picked what I thought was the prettiest carriage of them all. Carriages with pink lights came up, blue lights, and even red lights, but we weren’t blown away with them. Then the perfect one strolled up in white lights with roses decorated all over with white and red ribbons weaved around it. We road all over downtown in that horse carriage and it was absolutely everything I hoped it to be.

After our stroll around town, we stopped to take a picture in front of the Alamo and made our way back to our hotel room. Everything about that evening was absolutely perfect! From the zoo, to our spontaneous dinner, to making one of the biggest commitments to each other for the rest of our lives, and ending it off with a romantic carriage ride. He told me he had other ideas for a proposal but he couldn’t have made it anymore magical than how our evening turned out!
